Southern California has a new place to tee it up, and it is unlike any other club in the country. The Miramar Lake Club, a private golf and social club from developer Rick Caruso, is now open behind the gates of the Sherwood community near Thousand Oaks.
Caruso is the name behind The Grove, The Americana at Brand, Palisades Village and the Rosewood Miramar Beach resort in Montecito. With the Lake Club, his company takes its Miramar brand from the ocean to the lake, pairing a one-of-a-kind golf course with resort-level hospitality.
“The Miramar Lake Club is our vision for where golf is heading; more welcoming, more dynamic, and deeply rooted in experience,” Caruso said when the club was unveiled in July 2026.
A lakeside setting in the Santa Monica Mountains
The club sits at 341 Williamsburg Way in the gated Sherwood community, surrounded by rolling hills and old-growth oaks at the foot of the Santa Monica Mountains. It occupies the grounds of the former Sherwood Lake Club, which Caruso acquired in early 2026.
Since the purchase, the Caruso team has updated the architecture and amenities throughout. Renderings show a classically styled clubhouse, outdoor dining terraces, landscaped lawns and sweeping views of the lake.
A rare Jack Nicklaus course
The heart of the club is an 18-hole, par-3 course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Every hole plays as a par 3, for a par-54 round. Nicklaus has designed only two courses like it in the world, and this is the only one in the United States.
Each hole draws inspiration from famous Nicklaus designs around the globe. The result is a layout that is welcoming for newer players yet strategic enough to challenge seasoned golfers, and a full round fits easily into a busy day.
More than golf
The club is built around an 18,000-square-foot clubhouse, with amenities designed to keep members coming back whether or not they golf:
- A signature restaurant, reported to be an Italian concept with a bar, led by an award-winning chef
- A poolside grill for lunch and a bar for evening entertainment
- A resort-style pool
- A full gym with fitness and training facilities
- A wellness center overlooking the course
- Tennis courts
- A curated calendar of social events for members
